Jacob was always into something when he was a young man. First, he tricked his brother. Then, he tricked his father. Now, he is on a journey to find himself a wife in a different country because he is afraid that his brother may kill him if he stays.

While that sounds a lot like a 'Soap Opera', it is just one of the true bible stories we can tell our Sunday school class.

We've made this word search puzzle to go along with the Sunday school lesson of Jacob's Ladder. After you've taught your class about Jacob and his famous ladder, you can use this word search puzzle to fill in time or talk about what they've learned. You may also have extra time on your hands or have kids who love crafts. If that is the case, think about making your own Jacob's Ladder craft!

Use this fun Sunday school game to teach kids bible verses to go along with the lesson or to reinforce the Sunday school lesson about the Fishers of Men. You can also teach the kids the song "I Will Make You Fishers of Men". It's a cute song for younger kids to learn especially when you use the motions.

Any stick will work to play this Sunday school game.

    Sunday School Game

First, you’ll need to prepare several bible verses to hang on the wall or to be printed out for the kids to see.

    Gather theses supplies:
    • 4 sticks or dowel rods
    • 4 pieces of string (about 3 to 4 feet long depending on height of children)
    • 8 small magnets
    • 8 paper fish
    • 4 paper clips
    • pencil or pen
Directions for the Sunday School Game:

Write a number on the bible verses (ex: 1, 2, 3 ,4, and so on depending on how many verses you’ve prepared). Next, write a number on each of the fish to go along with the bible verses you've selected. Glue a magnet to the mouth of each fish. Attach the string to the stick to make a fishing pole. Add the paper clip to the bottom of the string to be the hook.

When a child catches a fish, the child will have to find the number on the fish and match it to the bible verse with the same number. They will say the verse two times and get back in line to catch another fish.

You could also print the bible verse on the back of the fish instead of a number.

If you have several helpers, this fishing game will go fast and the kids will be able to catch more fish and in turn say more verses.

    Tips:

    • We try to use verses for this game that the children are familiar with but do not know by heart.
    • Make the game more fun by hanging up a bed sheet in a doorway and let the kids fish over the sheet so they will not know which fish they will catch. Someone can sit on the other side to add the fish to the paper clip.
    • Use other things besides fish like paper: boots, seas shells, sharks, bottles, a sunken ship, and so on. You can even add people to the line if you are teaching the Fishers of Men bible story.
May God bless you as you teach children the word of God.

Jesus performed many miracles while here on earth. Some included healing the sick and the lame while others involved raising people from the dead and casting evil spirits out of others. All amazing in their own way.

We, as Sunday school teachers, can not only learn a lot from these miracles, but we have the opportunity to teach kids about them too.

Below is a FREE Sunday school activity to use with Jesus' First Miracle Sunday school lesson or you can use it as a time filler for any Sunday school lesson you choose.

Teaching Sunday school kids about avoiding sins can be fun! You only need a few items. Sin comes at us from every side each and every day. So, what better way to teach kids about sin than with a fun activity? It can also be adapted into a game, as well.

    Sunday School Activity

This is a simple, yet fun activity that can be adapted for all age children.

    Avoiding Sins
    Sunday School Activity
    Photo: |Chris| Flickr

    What you'll need:

    • construction paper (different colors so the kids will know which one is theirs)
    • pens or pencils for older children
For this activity, you'll need to explain to the kids about sin. You can use the 'Avoiding Sins' Sunday school lesson or just jump right into it using the guide below.

    What to do:

Ask the kids if they know what sins are.

    Wait for answers.

Then, ask if the kids can name some sins they may encounter from day to day.

    Wait for answers.

Older kids can write down some of those sins on the pieces of construction paper. Younger kids can just talk about the different sins out loud.

The point of this Sunday school activity:

Have the kids wad their paper up into balls. Pretend these balls are sin balls that we may encounter each and every day.

Have the kids sit on a line holding their paper balls.

Choose one kid to begin the activity.

The first child will try to run from one side of the room to the other in front of the other kids. As he runs, the children will throw their paper balls at the child.

Explain to the kids that one side of the room represents the morning. The other side of the room represents the evening. The child running is trying to make it from morning until night without encounter sins during the day.

Sometimes, we don't mean to sin, but we do. Just like the child running doesn't mean to get hit with the balls.

Sin is all around us. We can't get through each day on our own. We make mistakes.

Because Jesus died on the cross, our sins are forgiven.

Let each child have a turn to run. The kids love this activity and it is a great time to talk about every day sins and how we must lean on God to get us through.

Remember to stress the fact that we all mess up. When we do mess up, we need to ask God to forgive us, then try really hard not to do that sin again.

    Activity Turned Into Game

Make this activity into a fun Sunday school game by counting how many times each child gets hit with the paper ball.

The child with the least about of hits - wins!

    Extra Idea!

If you need some activities to send home with your kids or even need an extra page for them to do during class, here are some activity sheets. You get a dozen books and near as I can tell, it doesn't say you can't copy them once you buy them. For example, if your lesson is on Jonah and the Whale, copy enough of that page for all your kiddos!

There are many different activities and bible stories in these activity books. Of course, you could put your kid's names on a book of their own and let them use them week after week until they are finished.

Crossword puzzles are a fun way to give the Sunday school kids something extra to take home or to use as an added time filler during class. Below is a puzzle we simply titled 'Prayer' crossword puzzle. It can be used with many of our Sundays school lessons, or with the Daily Prayer Sunday school lesson.

Daily prayer is an important part of every Christian's life. Stress the importance of taking time to talk to God aside from thanking him before meals and before bed. God is there waiting on us. We are the ones who are too busy to talk to him.

Over the years, we've come up with some interesting gifts and crafts for the kids to make as a Father's Day Sunday school activity. Some were hits and others were less than great.

    Father's Day
    Sunday School Activity
    Photo: changeorder - Flickr
But, one of our favorites stands true year-after-year.

It is simple, but does require a little help from some other adults.

Sunday School Activity for Father's Day

This Sunday school activity goes great with the Father's Day Sunday school lesson.

You can do this activity one of two ways. I'll tell you right up front - one is messy and the other is not. Although, we do prefer the messy one.

What you'll need for the NOT-so-messy activity:

    • construction paper
    • scissors
    • glue
    • markers

    What to do:

Trace the child's foot on one piece of construction paper, cut it out, and paste it onto another sheet of construction paper. The papers should be two different colors.

Then, print on the sheet this little message to the fathers or grandfathers:

I am following in your foot prints (or steps - whichever you like).
    Proverbs 22:6 KJV

You can print out the verse or leave it like it is above. With small paper, you may not have enough room for the entire verse. Of course, you can always print it out using a printer which will give you more space.

If a child in your class doesn't have a father figure, he or she can give it to a special man in the church that they choose.

What you'll need for the VERY messy activity:
Older kids can get more creative
if they choose and according to the
    amount of time you have.

    • construction paper
    • paint (be sure to get the kind that washes out of clothes easily)
    • makers
    • old sheet, blanket, or plastic table cloth
    • bucket for water
    • old towels
    What to do:

Have the children take off their socks and shoes. Be sure to have a large work area covered with a old blanket or sheet. We like to use a plastic table cloth from our local dollar store.

Next, paint the bottom of the child's foot and place it onto the paper to make a footprint. Be sure to have a bucket or bowl of water nearby for rinsing the foot and an old towel for drying.

Do one paper for each child and let dry.

When the paper is dry, print this message to fathers or grandfathers:

I am following in your foot prints (or steps - whichever you like).
    Proverbs 22:6 KJV

You can print out the verse or leave it like it is above. With small paper, you may not have enough room for the entire verse. Of course, you can always print it out using a printer which will give you more space.

If a child in your class doesn't have a father figure, he or she can give it to a special man in the church that they choose.

You can do several different things when teaching the Sunday school lesson about the Tower of Babel, but for kids 7 years old and above, let them do a quick word search.

Use this word search either before the Sunday school lesson to get the kids thinking about how the words tie into the bible story or give it to them after to reinforce what you've just taught. Some teachers even like to send the papers home with the kids so the kids will have something to do on the ride home.

I've found that with the kids in our Sunday school class, if they don't do the puzzles in class, the papers sometimes don't even make it home. But, if the kids work on them in class, they can't wait to show them to their parents.

Every church is different as is every Sunday school class. Choose what's best for your kids and enjoy this FREE Sunday school activity.

And like I've said before - adults love word searches too (hint! hint!).

Use this Sunday school activity with the Garden of Eden Sunday school lesson or any bible lesson about Adam and Eve.

This activity can be used as an individual activity or as a group whichever you prefer.

Garden of Eden Sunday School Activity

This activity is really simple, but it will help the kids remember the story of the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve were tempted by the serpent - Satan.

What you'll need for individual students:

    • one piece of construction paper per student (poster board can also be used for larger projects)
    • green shaped leaves cut from construction paper (you can have these pre-cut or allow the kids to cut their own. If you'd like - take a nature walk to talk about all the things God has made and let the kids pick up a few leaves to trace onto their green paper before cutting.)
    • glue
    • brown markers or crayons for drawing the tree trunk (brown construction paper can also be used to make the tree trunk.
    • pencils for tracing
    • scissors for cutting
Let the kids make their own tree of knowledge of good and evil or even a tree of life whichever works best with your Sunday school lesson.

If you are talking about temptation, you can print out the Garden of Eden coloring page for the kids to add to their tree when finished with the leaves. This will serve as a reminder that Satan is always looking for ways to tempt us and we need to rely on God to help us resist that temptation.
    Photo: Tiny Tall

What you'll need for a large class project:

    • a wall, large poster board, large cardboard, sheet or anything else you can think of
    • green paint, or construction paper for leaves
    • brown paint, or construction paper for tree trunk
    • markers, pens, or pencils for tracing, if needed
    • scissors, if not using paint
    • a way to hang up your finished project, if needed

Make the tree as big as you like. You can hang it outside on a clothes line or paint it straight onto a wall for other members of the church to see.

May God bless you in your journey to teach children about the love of God.

We designed this Sunday school activity to go along with the Gideon bible story Sunday school lesson. All you need to do is print out one copy for each child. Don't worry - it's FREE. We do what we do to spread God's word and love every minute of it!

You will need some glue and cotton balls too!

    Sunday School Activity

After you've told the Gideon Sunday school lesson, give each child one copy of the page below, some cotton balls, and some glue. The bottle glue works better than stick glue, but you can use either.

Show the kids how to pull the cotton balls apart to spread them over the sheep. If you'd like, add the glue to the sheep yourself and let the kids add the spread out cotton balls.

If you'd like, have the kids color grass under the sheep, draw some clouds, and add eyes to the sheep before gluing on the cotton.

The top of the page gives the parents an idea of what their child learned in Sunday school today. You can always cut off the top of the page if you decide to use the sheep for a different lesson.

Having an extra Sunday school activity for kids to do is always a blessing as sometimes the lesson isn't as long as you first had thought. Too much down time allows the kids to become restless and loud.

That's exactly what happens in our Sunday school class and I'm sure it happens in yours too. The good news is that when you print out FREE Sunday school activities like the crossword puzzle below, you're not out any money and if you run out of time, you can always send the puzzle home with them as a reminder of the lesson they just heard.

This crossword puzzle was designed to go along with The Good Samaritan Sunday school lesson.

We hope you find this activity helpful. Be sure to check out our other Sunday school activities as they are being added continuously and will be until God sees fit otherwise.

Daniel and the lion's den is one of the most famous bible stories of all time. Actually, I don't have proof of that. I just know that when I was little it was one of the bible stories we were told over and over again. And, I have used it in my Sunday school class several times over the past year.

The kids love it because it is different, it has danger and it has miracles!

If you'd like to teach a lesson on the bible story of Daniel, check out our Sunday school lesson titled, "Daniel and the Lion's Den". (Now, isn't that an original title?)

To go along with the lesson, we've made up a crossword puzzle for you to use.

    Sunday School Activities

If you'd like, print some extras up for the adult Sunday school class. They can work on it before class starts or take it home as a fun activity.
